Kindle sync requires Chrome/Chromium 121+ or Firefox 142+. If already installed, update the extension files and reload it.
Connect the extension to your account
- Open Settings in mread-it. Under “Extension API token”, create or rotate your token and copy it while it is shown.
- Click the extension icon, then “Extension options / Kindle sync”.
- Set App URL to
https://mread-it.app, paste your API token, and click “Save”. If you host mread-it elsewhere, use that site’s address.
First, install and connect the desktop extension using the steps above.
- Sync your Kindle device or app with Amazon so your latest highlights and notes are available online.
- Open Kindle Notebook in the same desktop browser, sign in to Amazon, and check that your books and annotations appear there.
- In the extension options, turn on “Enable automatic Kindle sync” and allow access to Kindle Notebook and your mread-it site when the browser asks.
- Click “Sync now”. Follow the progress in the extension options; large libraries may take several minutes.
- Open your Kindle library from mread-it Settings. Refresh the page to see newly imported books, then open a book to read its annotations.
After setup, sync runs when your browser starts and every six hours while it is running. It uses a temporary inactive Notebook tab and updates existing annotations without duplicates. Your Amazon password and cookies stay in your browser.
This integration imports annotations available at read.amazon.com/notebook for purchased books. PDFs and EPUBs sent to Kindle are not included. If your Amazon session expires, sign in to Notebook again and click “Sync now”. Check the extension status for errors or notices about incomplete imports.
To stop automatic imports, turn off “Enable automatic Kindle sync”. Annotations already imported remain in your mread-it library.
